Monitoring Wildlife to Prevent Conflicts

The COOP4SAFE team has begun active fieldwork to identify the best locations for installing new camera traps, a vital tool for both monitoring wildlife and spotting potential conflict zones where humans and large carnivores might come into contact. Existing cameras have already provided valuable insights, revealing areas that warrant further study to better understand the movements and behaviors of bears, wolves, lynx, and other species.
These efforts are part of a broader approach to promote coexistence between people and wildlife. By developing an efficient system for data collection and monitoring, the team can assess biodiversity and pinpoint where human–wildlife interactions are most likely to occur. Gathering detailed information on large carnivores allows for the design of targeted prevention measures, while establishing an early-warning system helps alert communities when bears are present in vulnerable areas.
Through these combined actions, COOP4SAFE aims to safeguard the natural balance of ecosystems while supporting sustainable coexistence, ensuring that both people and wildlife can thrive together in shared landscapes.
