During a field excursion in the Poloniny National Park, high-school students learned about the ecology and monitoring of large carnivores, including the use of camera traps. 

In the afternoon, the excursion was followed by the presentation of a new educational guidebook on coexistence with large carnivores produced as part of the project – Living Side by Side: A Practical Guide to Coexistence with Large Carnivores – with particular focus on information relevant to the final part, IV. Debate as an Educational Tool, since after the guidebook presentation a structured role-play debate  entitled “Human Coexistence with Carnivores in the Territory of Poloniny National Park — Carnivores as an Opportunity or a Threat” took place. Students tried out the roles of moderator and representatives of various stakeholder groups, learning to work with verified sources of information along the way. Several copies of the guidebook were donated to the school, which plans to use the materials as well as the debate format with other classes in the future.
