Here’s a simple guide on how to get involved in citizen science as part of the COOP4SAFE project:

1. Download the Cluey app, which we use to collect data on the presence of large carnivores in the Poloniny Mountains in Slovakia, in Maramureș in Romania, and in the Verkhovynskyi National Park in Ukraine: https://www.sensingclues.org/data-collection
2. After installation, activate the app by using the code 100101.
3. Next, allow the app to access your location.
4. Create your account; in addition to your username, you’ll need to set a password to log in to the app.
5. Then send a request to join one of the national citizen science groups:

• for Slovakia – Poloniny Citizen Science – to our colleague Pali Stranovský: [email protected]
• for Romania – Maramures Citizen Science – to our colleague Zoltán Szabó: [email protected]
• for Ukraine – Verkhovynskyi Citizen Science – to our colleague Yaroslav Zelenchuk: [email protected]

The coordinator will add you to your chosen group and send you all the necessary information on how to use the app.

6. After being added to the group, refresh the app by swiping down from the top of the screen with two fingers.
7. The group Poloniny Citizen Science / Maramures Citizen Science / Verkhovynskyi Citizen Science will then appear in the group options; select the one you want, and you can start using the app in the field.
8. After you upload your observation to the app, the coordinator will review the data and, if it is correct, approve it. Once approved, your observation will be visible to all group members.
